SWTOR Alderaan Strategy Guide
In this SWTOR Aldernaan Warzone strategy guide, we will be going over everything you need to know about the Aldernaan Warzone in Star Wars The Old Republic. We will cover everything from the basic reveals to the top strategies you can use in a pick-up group and and as an organized team to win quickly and easily.
SWTOR Aldernaan Guide – Warzone Overview
The Aldernaan Warzone will feel very familiar to MMORPG veterans, as it is very similar to Arathi Basin from WoW as well as one of the Warfronts from Rift: Planes of Telara.
The premise of the match is simple: there are three turrets which you can claim for your team at three different spots on the map. Controlling one of these points damages the enemy ship. The more turrets you hold, the more damage the enemy ship takes. Once you take out the enemy ship, you win the match.
In short, this Warzone is just like Arathi Basin except there are three flags instead of five, and your score starts at 600 and approaches 0 rather than going up over time.
SWTOR Aldernaan Warzone Strategy Guide – Scoring
Scoring for the Aldernaan Warzone is the one thing that is a bit different from iterations of this game type in other MMORPGs. Each team starts with a ship at 600 HP. Each turret you own takes off 5 HP from the enemy ship with each tick of the game clock. The game ends once one team’s ship gets to 0 HP. Whichever team loses their ship first loses the Warzone.
Note that scoring is linear – you do not deal any extra damage for owning 1 turret versus three turrets. Each turret you own increases your damage by a static amount, and each turret does the same amount of damage.
This means that if you own all three turrets, you will do 15 damage per tick (usually the turrets “ticks” are not synced up), but if you own two turrets, it is 10 damage per tick. This is different from Arathi Basin in WoW, where you get a lot of bonus points for owning all objectives on the map.
Additionally, owning two turrets means you are doing twice as much damage as your enemy; you are dealing 10 damage per tick versus 5 damage that the enemy is doing.
SWTOR Aldernaan Warzone – Strategies
As you can see from the way scoring works, simply owning two turrets is a way to a fast win. Owning three turrets is very hard, even for organized teams, and does not result in that much faster of a win than owning two turrets.
It is not like Arathi Basin where a 5-cap results in a 5 minute win whereas a slight advantage can drag the game out to a 15 minute game. Holding 2 turrets the entire game is about a 12 minute win, whereas holding 3 turrets the entire game is only about an 8 minute win.
Since you only have 8 players per team, holding all the turrets is very hard and not sustainable. No matter how good your team, if your enemy rolls in with all 8 players to a turret, it is going to be very hard to hold off with 2-3 players.
The reason for this is that you cannot mount in Aldernaan and the turrets are very far apart. It is too hard to reinforce and cover all three turrets, even for organized teams.
I recommend sending 6 players to the middle and 2 players to the side turret at the start of the game. Typically the turret left of your starting location is the easiest to hold for both sides. The center is the most important at the start. Once you cap center, reinforce the side with another player, leaving 5 in the middle and 3 at the side turret. This is more than enough to hold down the side turret of your choice.

When capping the center, focus on taking down all of your opponents and then capping the center. For the side turrets, you need to cap the turret as soon as possible.
The reason for this is that when a team owns one of the side turrets, a new vehicle appears in the Med Center respawn area which takes players directly to a side turret. This vehicle then lands right at the side turret, providing the enemy with immediate reinforcements.
Three players can hold down a side turret practically indefinitely against 5 opponents, simply because they can fly right back to it as soon as they die. The center has no direct access point like this, meaning that capping it is less important.
Since you can reinforce the side turrets so easily, they are much easier to defend than the center. This is why you want to leave 5 players at the center and 3 on the side.
Sometimes, your teammates may lose the side tower in Aldernaan. If you own the center but neither Side Turret, reclaiming it can be a pain. The key is to send an overwhelming force (5 players) to the Side Turret at the same time. Once you get there, do not focus down players one at a time. Instead of wear them all down at the same time, then burst them down together. If you kill players one at a time, by the time you kill the last one, the first one will already be flooding in through the direct vehicle root. Take them down at the same time for an easy cap.
Simply by holding two of the three turrets, you will get a quick and easy win in Aldernaan, making the strategies for this Warzone very straight-forward.
SWTOR Aldernaan Warzone Strategy Guide – Conclusion
Aldernaan is a simple Warzone. Just focus on holding two turrets and you will come away with an easy win. As a final tip, when guarding a Turret, stand close to it. If you stand too far away, you will not earn defender points. You can get two medals very easily here – one for earning 1k Defender Points and one for 3k Defender points. Be sure to hang out next to the Turret so you can actually get credit for defending!
