SWTOR Bounty Hunter Stats Guide

In this SWTOR Bounty Hunter stats guide, you will discover what the best primary stats do for the Bounty Hunter in Star Wars The Old Republic and what the best secondary stats are for each Bounty Hunter advanced specialization.

We will start with primary stats and then break down secondary stats by role.

SWTOR Bounty Hunter Stats Guide – Primary Stats

The “Aim” stat is the primary stat for the Bounty Hunter. It increases your regular ranged weapon damage, the power of your tech attacks, and increases your critical hit rate with both types of attacks.

The only other primary stat which influences PvE Bounty Hunter damage is Cunning, which increases the strength of your tech attacks. Since the Aim stat not only increases your tech attacks by the same amount as Cunning but also increases your ranged damage as well, there is no reason to ever pick up the Cunning stat. Always go for Aim.

Naturally, you will want to pick up endurance as your secondary primary stat. This increases your health so you can survive in PvE and PvP.

For Shield Tech Powertechs who want to tank, this situation is reversed: your primary stat is Endurance, which increases your health, and your next go-to stat is Aim, which will increase your threat generation via increasing your damage and critical hit rate.

There are two more specialty primary stats of interest for the Bounty Hunter: Presence and Expertise. Presence increases the effectiveness of your companion and may be useful for certain soloing builds. Expertise increases your damage and healing in PvP as well as reducing the amount of damage you take from other players. Expertise is absolutely essential for all classes in PvP and the Bounty Hunter is no exception.

SWTOR Bounty Hunter Stats Guide – Secondary Stats

There are a variety of secondary stats that the Bounty Hunter can benefit from. For the most part, healers and DPS classes of all specs can benefit from the stats below:

  • Accuracy – Accuracy increases your chance to hit with melee attacks and reduces the chance of your opponent to resist special tech attacks. Once you reach the accuracy cap, this stat then reduces your target’s armor. This stat is one of the more beneficial secondary stats in game for all Bounty Hunter DPS classes, though there is some merit in PvP healers to invest in this stats so your crowd control effects do not get resisted.
  • Alacrity – Alacrity increases the rate at which attacks with an activation timer are casted (i.e. anything that is channeled or has a cast bar before activating). This is a great stat for healers and a good stat for DPS classes which cast a lot of attacks at well. In PvP, I would rather stack Critical Rating, Surge Rating, Expertise, and Power though for more burst damage. Steady DPS is not a huge asset in PvP.
  • Critical Rating – Critical rating increases your chance to critically hit with attacks and spells. Good for PvE but even better for PvP. PvE Healers should not focus on critical hit for your healing spells since you cannot rely on a crit to heal up a tank. It is better to have steady healing output (i.e. stacking power / tech power / alacrity).
  • Power – Power increases the effectiveness of all healing and damage abilities and attacks. All of your damage will increase with Power, and as such it is a stat you will want to stack as a DPS or healing Bounty Hunter.
  • Surge Rating – Surge rating increases the amount of bonus damage your critical hits do. This stat depends heavily upon having a high critical hit rate in the first place, which does not happen until you have end-game PvE or PvP gear. Once you have a lot of crit, this is a stat worthy of merit, especially in PvP, where big crits can take players by surprise (and earn you extra medals as well)!
  • Tech Power – Tech Power increases the effectiveness of all tech attacks. This is not really a stat you should go out of your way to get as a Bounty Hunter but rather something that comes along on your weapon and off-hand slot to help boost your special attacks’ strength.

To sum things up, Mercenary healing specs should focus on Power, Tech Power, and Alacrity, whereas PvP healers should throw in a bit of accuracy (to help land crowd-control attacks and snares) and critical hit rating as it comes.

DPS classes should focus on Power, Critical Rating, Accuracy, and possibly Alacrity and Surge. Alacrity depends on having a spec which uses a lot of channeled attacks (i.e. Tracer Missile) whereas getting a lot out of Surge requires top-end gear.

SWTOR Bounty Hunter Stats Guide – The Tanking Powertech

The only specialization which has a significantly different stats from the 6 talent trees (Pyrotech has two iterations depending on advanced class choice) is a Shield Tech Powertech. This is for players who want to tank, whether that be in PvE or PvP.

There are 5 important secondary stats when it comes to Shield Tech Powertechs in SWTOR:

  • Accuracy – Accuracy helps with threat generation and most importantly makes sure your important abilities do not miss or are interrupted. You can get up to 10% of this before getting diminishing returns, but even 5% goes a long way (most tanking gear lacks Accuracy).
  • Armor – Armor reduces the amount of physical and kinetic damage players take. This is really the best tanking stat outside of endurance for PvE as it results in steady mitigation (unlike Defense rating, as mentioned below).
  • Absorption – Absorption increases the amount of damage your shield can absorb. It gets better as your shield rating gets higher.
  • Defense Rating – Defense rating increases your chance to parry (fully block melee attacks) and increases your chance to deflect (fully block ranged attacks). I am not a huge fan of Defense Rating when it comes to tanking, at least for raids (4 mans and PvP it is fine). The reason for this is that if you are tanking an operation’s boss, your healer(s) cannot assume that you are going to parry or deflect. Even with a 25% parry/deflect rate, the boss will inevitably chain together a string of hits, making your Defense Rating ineffective. The boss only needs to get lucky once for your group to wipe, which makes maxing out Endurance and Armor a much more reliable option when possible.
  • Shield Rating – Increases your chance to block. Again, like Defense Rating, it is nice but not as essential as Armor and Endurance for the reasons mentioned above.

Tanking Powertechs are actually quite useful in PvP, as they make great ball carriers in Huttball and wall defenders in The Voidstar. Just make sure you stack expertise and get PvP gear (rather than using your PvE tanking gear), since expertise reduces the amount of damage you take from enemy players.

SWTOR Bounty Hunter Stats Guide – Conclusion

By selecting these stats based recommended in this Star Wars The Old Republic Bounty Hunter stats guide, you will become more effective, whether that be in PvP or PvE. Just remember non-tanks should look to Aim where tanks should always looks look to stack Endurance and Expertise trumps all in PvP and you will be fine.
