SWTOR Credits Guide
In this SWTOR credits guide, you will find all the information you will need for earning large amounts of credits in SWTOR. If you did not already know, credits are the currency of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Early Release SWTOR Credits Guide – The Low Hanging Fruit
Now that Star Wars The Old Republic has been out for awhile, we have had a chance to see what crafts are and are not making money. In this article, I am going to reveal to you the crafts which I have seen make the easiest money. Note that all crafts can make money, but some make it easier than others.
Cybertech
Cybertech seems to have a fairly easy time making credits in SWTOR. The main thing they can produce which all players need multiple sets of is ship armor.
In particular, the prototype (blue) grade of Grade 2 armor seems to sell the best. This is because nearly everyone hits the low level required to use this gear with multiple alts, and Grade 2 armor is a huge advantage in the Space Combat missions. You can do most missions in the game with Grade 2 armor, and when you do finally upgrade to Grade 4 armor, you can complete every mission.
There seems to be a lot of competition for the actual Artifact-quality ship armor. It is not that it is not useful, it is just that there are only so many players to buy it and most Cybertechs are focusing in on that type of armor.
If you are a Cybertech, look for ship armor as a good way to make easy credits. Many sets sell each day, especially of the Grade 2 gear, so just because there are 2 people undercutting you does not mean you need to lower your prices.
Biochem
Biochem makes great Adrenals and Stims, which have become very popular in PvP. These add massive amounts of power (or some other stat) and can make players quite stronger for a period of time. Players go through a lot of the stims in PvP because they are so good and are a lot of fun to use.
The Combat Medpacs are also pretty good to use too, but it is really the Rakata Stims and Adrenals which you can sell for a lot of money to other players.
I expect demand for these to go up more as the game matures. Not many players are Biochems, but a lot are starting to re-roll as it is one of the most useful crafting skill trees.
Mods
The next thing I have seen sell for quite a bit of money that I recommend in this SWTOR Credits guide is the top-level artifact equipment mods. This includes everything from Armor Mods to Lightsaber Crystals to item augments from Slicing. Most crafts can make some sort of mod, so I am not going to list them all here.
The key here is they have to be the best-in-slot with the right stats to be worth the most money. This means they need to either completely max out one primary stat (i.e. all strength, aim, endurance, cunning, or willpower) or have a combo of a primary stat and willpower, or possibly a third stat like crit rating added on.
The trick to making good money with these (especially the Slicing Augments) is to not under-sell yourself. When you
get a good augment or item modification, you need to sell it for a lot of credits.
For example, I ran the level 340 Slicing mission and got a level 49 artifact with all the stats in +strength. Since I knew this was a great DPS piece, I put it up for 50,000 credits, and it sold within a day. As the game goes on, these prices might even increase more as more credits come into the system.
It will take some time to reverse engineer the top mods and some luck to get the good slicing augments, but when you do finally get them, sell them for a lot of credits!
SWTOR Credits Guide – Alignment Trick
Now I know this goes against what a lot of players want to do, but for the credit minded, one very easy way to save a lot of credits throughout your entire game experience is to pick the opposite alignment from your faction. This means going as a Dark-side Republic player or a Light Side Imperial player.
The reason for this is items on the auction house like Relics require alignment, but the demand for the “normal” faction alignments is huge compared to the abnormal alignments. Empire players can get Light-aligned items for very cheap compared to Dark-aligned items with the same stats. The opposite holds true for Republic players, who can get cheap Dark-side items and have to pay a lot for light-side items.
SWTOR Credits Guide – Companion Gifts
One thing I have taken up recently is power-leveling crafts for basically free (or even making money in the process). I did this with Diplomacy to change my alignment (to get cheap items) and found that companion gifts of all types usually sell for much more than it costs to run an actual quest.
You can actually profit off your quests this way. For example, Level 49-50 quests nearly always give a prototype-level companion gift, cost 2000-3000 credits to run, and sell for 5000 credits on the auction house. Artifact items often sell for 8000, whereas green items usually allow you to break even (“Rich Yield” quests typically give 2 items, each which sell for about 1500).
The reason this actually works is because players love to do things one thing at a time. They ignore companion affection, then wake up one day and think they really need to max it out. Instead of taking their time, they blow their saved up credits on gifts on the auction house to max out their companion’s affection. Just let these players blow their credits on your gifts instead of someone else’s!
The top-selling items tend to be Courting, Weapons, and Luxuries. Most companions like the latter two whereas more players want to buy more courting items to complete the romance quest lines with their Companion.
Hoarding your Credits
A wise person once said, “the fastest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket”. This is even more true in MMORPGs because you just are not going to be able to invest your credits for interest!
The point is at the release of any MMORPG, you have tons of eager players who want to power-level their crafts, and tons of players who will over-pay to be the first in good crafted gear. You can take advantage of this by using this SWTOR credits guide and effectively set yourself up for the rest of the game.
Again, gather and sell your gathered items early for credits. Once players power-level their professions up and the cost for supplies drops, buy the materials yourself and level your craft of choice (you can only pick one craft in SWTOR). You can then craft and sell high-quality items to players for a lot of money.
With all your credits, save them and use them to buy important things like more materials to make more high-quality items. You always want to sit on a base of a lot of credits, as it makes it easier to buy materials to craft should you see an opening in the marketplace, get a new recipe, or should a new content patch come out and release new recipes and materials.
There is one take-away point to this SWTOR credits guide: do whatever you can to make (and keep) credits as a fresh player at the level cap, and only spend once you have a considerable base of credits to operate from. You will find that if you are richer than the average player, you will be able to stay richer than the average player yet still have plenty of credits to buy items with.
This way, when you do finally decide to start making credits, you can pick one of the crafts mentioned earlier in the article and power-level it up.
SWTOR Credits Guide – Conclusion
Now that the game has been out awhile, I think everyone should pick up a craft (I am going Biochem personally as it is so good) and start to work on making the valuable items in-game. Try to get the best armor mods, weapon modifications, and augments, as these are what will always be in-demand in Star Wars The Old Republic. This SWTOR Credits guide recommends crafting as the key to making a lot of credits in SWTOR.
