SWTOR Gameplay

SWTOR promises to offer innovative gameplay unlike anything seen before in before in any MMO. In this article, I will be going over the basics of SWTOR gameplay so you can know exactly what to expect out of this MMO.

Compelling Storylines

The major feature that SWTOR gameplay offers over other MMOs is a compelling questline. Each character (there are 4 possible character archetypes for each class) is given their own unique series of epic quests.

As you progress through these quests, your character unlocks new abilities and becomes more powerful. These are chains of quests that involve participating in an epic storyline and give your character a purpose in the Star Wars: The Old Republic universe.

This is completely different from most other games which offer hundreds of quests to kill 10 rats/goblins/bad guys or gather 10 relics/enchanted mushrooms/powerful crystals.

However, many players have thought that SWTOR is going to be a single-player game played online. This is not the case. In addition to your class quests, there will be another line of group quests which you should be able to do in both small and large groups, depending on your preference.

I think this is a great feature as I personally do not like repeating boring, meaningless quests over and over again.

A Hero in the SWTOR Universe

The other major feature that SWTOR brings to the table is that combat and gameplay in general is meant to make you feel like a “hero” in your world.

To clarify, in other MMORPGs you never feel like a “hero”, whereas in single-player RPGs you do. In every other MMO, if you defeat any boss of significance or complete an epic quest it is with a very large force, and when your character is alone he struggles to beat insignificant bosses and all around is a fairly minor player in the world.

In SWTOR, the group quest lines and combat in general favors this epic playstyle. One released developer video demonstrates epic SWTOR gameplay by showing a group of 4 players taking on a “boss” encounter.

During the encounter, two waves, each wave containing a boss, bursts into the room with tons of back-up. The Trooper class “tanks” the boss, the Jedi Knight battles the adds, the Smuggler helps deal damage to all targets, and the Jedi Consular heals the group.

During the fight, you can see that the high-speed action and the large amounts of enemies the “good guys” mow down is quite epic indeed. It is a lot different from other games which offer the same plain encounters which involve mindlessly swinging at a stationary enemy.

Even basic combat from a low level involves players taking on groups of enemies and using strategy and abilities to progress through the game.

SWTOR gameplay does indeed represent a shift more towards traditional

Everything You Would Expect From An MMO

Finally, the developers have stated time and time again that the SWTOR gameplay features mentioned here are just what this MMO is bringing to the table that radically different from other games of the same genre.

Players can still expect to find PvP, an auction house, in-game economies, crafting, trading, and end-game group content available for play.

SWTOR Gameplay Conclusion

If you are looking for an MMO which offers faster-paced, exciting combat, then SWTOR is for you. With its high-speed combat, epic questlines, and solo and small group play options, it is perfect for players that enjoy some MMO features (economy, PvP, people to interact with) without the hassle of trying having to get in a group of 20 people together every time you want to do something epic or exciting.
