SWTOR Trooper Stats Guide
In this SWTOR Trooper stats guide, we will be discussing what the best primary stats for the Trooper are and what secondary stats you should get based on your advanced class and talent spec.
We will start with primary stats, which are the same no matter what your spec, then break down important secondary stats by the Trooper’s advanced classes and specializations.
SWTOR Trooper Stats Guide – Primary Stats
The Trooper’s primary stat is the “Aim” stat. This increases the damage of your ranged and tech attacks (or heals) as well as the critical hit rate of these abilities. All DPS and healing Trooper’s should stack this stat, regardless of whether you decide to go Vanguard or Commando.
The next stat you should focus on is endurance, as you will need endurance simply to survive in PvE and PvP. For tanks, Endurance is more important than Aim (aim increases threat generation for tanks).
DPS and healing Troopers should get gear which has more Aim than Endurance, whereas tanking Troopers should focus on gear which has more Endurance than aim.
There are three other primary stats which effect the Trooper. Cunning increases the damage of tech abilities, but under no circumstance should it be chosen over Aim, as the Trooper gets Tech Bonus from the Aim stat.
Presence increases the effectiveness of your companion, which may be useful for soloing sets. Finally, there is Expertise, which increases your damage and healing in PvP as well as reduces the amount of damage you take from players. Expertise is a top-tier stat that you will want to focus on if you PvP at all.
SWTOR Trooper Stats Guide – Secondary Stats for DPS and Healing
There are a lot of secondary stats in SWTOR, and different Trooper specs use different stats. This is a lot different from primary stats, where all classes focus on Aim and Endurance.
We will start with stats which effect damage-dealing and healing specs in this section and in the next section talk about the secondary stats which effect healers. Here is the list of secondary stats:
- Accuracy: Accuracy increases your chance to hit with ranged attacks and reduces the resistance rate of your tech abilities. Accuracy is important for all DPS classes and PvP healers (you want your snares and crowd-control abilities to land, even as a healer). Accuracy does nothing for PvE healers. Once you reach the accuracy cap, accuracy reduces your target’s armor rating.
- Alacrity: Alacrity is a haste-like ability which increases the rate at which your channeled or casted abilities are activated. It seems to reduce the global cooldown for abilities with a 1.5 second cast time, but has no effect on global cooldown for abilities which are instant. As a result, any Trooper spec which uses a lot of instant attacks will not benefit from a high alacrity rating. Alacrity is more useful for Commandos, which tend to have a lot more channeled abilities than Vanguards (especially healers).
- Critical Rating: Critical rating increases your critical hit rate for both offensive attacks and tech abilities. Critical rating is useful for every spec in the game aside from perhaps PvE healers. You cannot count on critical heals when healing in PvE – you get more reliable output from maxing Power and Alacrity instead of critical rating.
- Power: Power increases the damage and healing of every ability and type in the game. Power is an excellent stat for every spec in both PvE and PvP. Stack power on your gear.
- Surge Rating: Surge rating increases the damage and healing bonus of your critical hits. This stat is particular useful in PvP and also becomes more useful as your critical hit rating gets very high. If you do not have a lot of crit rating, then this stat is not very useful. If you have a lot of high-end PvP gear, this stat gets better.
- Tech Power: Tech Power increases the strength of your tech abilities (i.e. heals). However, Tech Power really is not found outside of your weapon and off-hand slots, so you do not have to worry about going out of your way to get it.
To summarize everything above, healing Troopers should focus on Alacrity and Power, whereas DPS classes need Accuracy, Critical Rating, and Power. DPS Troopers which channel most of their abilities (i.e. Gravity Round builds) can benefit some from Alacrity, whereas PvP healers should pick up at least a little bit of accuracy.
Finally, Surge Rating is good when you have very good gear. If you do not have good gear (i.e. level 50 artifact gear), stay away from surge and stack power instead.
SWTOR Vanguard Tanking Stats Guide
There are five important secondary stats for Vanguards that want to tank in Star Wars The Old Republic:
- Accuracy: You need some accuracy to make sure your attacks land and do not miss or get resisted. This is important for threat generation, especially during the initial portions of an encounter.
- Armor: Aside from Endurance, Armor is the best tanking stat in my opinion for PvE. It gives you steady damage mitigation, which makes it easy for healers to see how much damage you are taking.
- Defense Rating: Defense rating increases your chance to parry (fully block melee attacks) and deflect (fully block ranged attacks). This is good for 4-man dungeons and PvP, but has limited usefulness in Operations. The reason for this is your healers cannot assume you will parry an attack – they will have to heal you all the same anyway.
- Shield Rating: Shield Rating increases your chance to block attacks with a shield.
- Absorption: Absorption increases the strength of your shield. Absorption is like Surge for tanks – it increases in effectiveness the better your gear gets, simply because you need a high shield rating for absorption to become useful.
In short, Vanguard tanks should max out Endurance and Armor as a priority with all other tanking stats as being useful as they are available.
SWTOR Trooper Stats Guide – Conclusion
The Trooper’s stats are pretty simple – focus on maxing out Aim and Endurance. Your secondary stats depend on your advanced class and talent tree choices. The last thing I can say is do not underestimate the effectiveness of Expertise in PvP – it is incredibly strong and you will want to get it no matter what your spec is.
